What we do

At Universidad de Cantabria, we are conducting two main types of experiments that are being executed with pre-service teachers, undergraduate mathematics students and secondary education students.

  • The role of feedback in mathematics teaching and learning

To analyse the role of feedback in mathematical tasks, we conduct research to identify solvers’ solution strategies and errors. This information is employed to provide specific computer-aided assessments and test their effectiveness.

  • Perceptions towards STACK

To understand how an approach like the one employed in AuthOMath is regarded by students for potential implementation in high school classrooms, we are seeking insights into their perceptions of STACK.

What we have achieved so far

Our progress in the project concerning the above points can be summarised as follows.

  • The role of feedback in mathematics teaching and learning

Three main studies are in the process of examining aspects related to feedback. One of our studies has delved into the feedback that undergraduate mathematics students design for tasks dealing with secondary education students (see Ríos-San-Nicolás et al., 2022). The other two studies are in the process of unravelling the relationship between the specificity of feedback and its impact on task-solving. The proposed tasks are related to algebra (see Sanz-Ruiz et al., 2023) and functions (in process).

  • Perceptions towards STACK

We have already gathered data from pre-service teachers and undergraduate mathematics students enrolled in a mathematics education course to assess their perceptions of learning mathematics with STACK.
